Speech Therapy
What is Speech Therapy?
Speech therapy enables people of all ages to access communication in order to effectively share their wants and needs with others. Our skilled therapists implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based practices, fostering client progress in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Speech therapy helps children to develop their skills in:
Articulation: How we say sounds and put sounds together to make words
Language: How well we understand what we hear or read, and how we use words to communicate our thoughts and feelings with others
Literacy: How well we read and write
Social Communication: How we follow social rules, have conversations, and use nonverbal communication
Voice: How our voices sound
Fluency: How well speech flows, also called stuttering.
Cognitive Communication: How well our minds work to process information, using skills such as memory, attention, problem solving, organization, etc.
We work with children who need support with challenges related to diagnoses such as:
Autism spectrum disorder
ADHD
Learning differences
Developmental disabilities/delays
Capital KIDS offers speech therapy that is carefully crafted to meet the needs of each child.
Individual Services
One-on-one sessions with a speech therapist involve targeted intervention, tailored activities, and immediate feedback, all within a supportive and engaging environment. Sessions involve family and caregiver education and coaching to promote generalization of newly developing skills.
Evaluation Services
Our experienced SLPs are available to provide comprehensive speech and language evaluations to identify any communication delays or disorders. This helps to identify your child's unique needs and provides the necessary information to create an individualized treatment plan for your child.
Group Services
Group sessions allow for children to work together in a structured setting, so they can practice communication skills in a social context. Group sessions facilitate generalization of skills to naturalistic environments and encourage peer interaction, helping children develop social communication skills, such as turn-taking, listening, and conversational skills in groups of 3-5 children.
